Johnson Throws No Hitter for the 'Cats. Frey Breaks Stolen Bases Record
The NDSCS Softball team traveled to Rosemount, MN to take on DCTC in a double header. The Wildcats' pitching was incredible as they only gave up a total of one hit in two games combined.
The first game saw Emma Johnson throw a gem of a game where she went all five innings not giving up a single hit for a no hitter. Johnson struck out seven of the 16 batters she faced. Blythe Proulx led the 'Cats at the plate as she went 3-3 with two RBIs, a run scored, and two stolen bases. Kendyl Moss had two sacrifice flys for RBIs. Meridith Frey went 2-2 with two stolen bases on the game. The Wildcats scored nine runs on nine hits with zero errors to take game one 9-0.
In game two, Ella Stewart got the start where she went four innings and didn't give up a single base runner in all of her innings. Stewart struck out six of the 12 batters she faced. Grace Folkema came in for relief and had four strikeouts and Heeley Taylor pitched an inning with one strikeout. Makalya LaChance had a two RBI game while Rayelle Cooley went 2-3 with two stolen bases. Meridith Frey stole three bases and broke the school record for most steals in a season.
The Wildcats will play a best of three series against Dakota College at Bottineau on Saturday starting at Noon and 2 PM at home in Wahpeton. The Wildcats will be putting on a BBQ fundraiser for the games with an $8 hamburger meal and a $7 hotdog meal. Each meal will come with a drink, chips, and a cookie.
